Dry bulk shipping does not stop when a fixture is agreed. Do you want to help make sure it performs at its best?
Join NORDEN's Dry Operator business in Singapore and play a key role at the intersection of commercial shipping, vessel operations and maritime skills. As our new Port Captain, you will work closely with chartering, operations and business development teams, helping ensure vessels are operated safely, efficiently and commercially.
Whether you are an experienced Port Captain or a Master Mariner seeking to advance your shore-based career, this position brings together technical knowledge and commercial insight every day.
Why this role?
At the end of the day, shipping is a people-focused industry and reliable operations rely on extensive marine know-how. In this role, you will be a trusted advisor to our commercial teams, helping transform operational and technical knowledge into commercial value.
Based in our Singapore office in Suntec City, you will work in an active trading environment where quick decisions, teamwork and problem-solving are part of daily work. You will support colleagues across vessel sourcing, cargo planning and voyage execution while engaging with customers, ports and industry partners around the world.
As our new Port Captain, you will help ensure that commercial opportunities are matched with operational excellence, creating value for both NORDEN and our customers.
What you will be doing
You will have the opportunity to:
- Optimise cargo intake and prepare stowage plans for a wide range of dry bulk cargoes.
- Advise on cargo hold cleaning, inspections and cargo readiness.
- Screen and assess vessels considered for Time Charter employment.
- Conduct vessel inspections and operational assessments in selected ports.
- Provide marine, technical and operational support across ongoing voyages and trades.
- Participate in stevedoring and cargo operations related to parcel and combination cargoes.
You will also have the opportunity to travel and engage directly with customers, vessel operators, ports and industry stakeholders across the region.
What you will bring
You bring deep knowledge of the maritime sector together with commercial insight, and you thrive in a setting where each day is different. You take a practical, action-oriented approach and communicate recommendations clearly while working effectively in a changing environment.
This role calls for an experienced marine professional with:
- Experience as a Port Captain or a background as Master or Deck Officer on dry bulk vessels combined with shore-based operational experience.
- In-depth knowledge of marine operations and commercial shipping.
- Solid experience with grain, steel and parcel cargo stowage planning and execution.
- The ability to solve operational and technical challenges with a practical and commercial mindset.
- Experience working across diverse cultures, customers and stakeholders.
- A good understanding of voyage economics and vessel operating costs.
